Granite Ventures | About

We have helped early-stage technology companies build solid foundations for success since 1992, when we began investing as the early-stage venture capital group within Hambrecht & Quist. Granite became an independent firm in 1998, but continues to leverage decades of investment and technology experience to benefit and create value for our portfolio companies. We focus our investments on sectors where our partners have deep domain expertise, broad industry knowledge, and significant investment experience.

Company Overview

Granite manages over $1 billion in venture capital and has invested in more than 90 private companies. We partner with promising and successful entrepreneurs to create businesses that have a competitive edge and achieve category leadership.

The Granite team consists of a seasoned group of investors who, together, share more than 150 years of venture and technology industry experience. Our team has invested in early-stage technology companies through multiple economic cycles and brings together complementary skills and experience to the Firm. In addition to extensive early-stage investing experience, the Principals have been successful entrepreneurs, executives, attorneys, research analysts, and investment bankers. This collective experience gives Granite a powerful combination of technology, entrepreneurial, operational, and transactional expertise.

Approach

Granite has a consistent approach to investing in early-stage technology companies. We invest in companies with proprietary technologies and sustainable competitive advantages – companies that can excel and grow in today’s global marketplace.

Granite, adds value by effectively participating in the development of our portfolio companies. We lead a majority of our investments, serve as Board members, and actively guide executive teams in mapping out their companies’ future. We assist our portfolio companies in making financial, recruiting, and strategic decisions; facilitate introductions to potential partners and customers; help develop sales and distribution channels; and partner with entrepreneurs in all other facets of building great companies.

Granite generally makes its initial investment in the Seed, Series A or Series B round. Our initial investments typically range from $500,000 to $4 million, and up to $10 million over the life of the company. While we usually invest in U.S.-based companies, we will consider select investments outside the U.S.
